WORCESTER – Police responded to 188 incidents at 37 Worcester Public Schools between Aug. 29, 2022, and Dec. 26, 2022, according to a crime analysis produced by the Worcester Police Department.

Of those incidents, 50 (27%) were classified as Medical. The categories of Assault and Battery (11), Assault (8), Fight (5), Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (2), and Indecent Assault and Battery Over 14 (1), combined for 14% of the 188 incidents.

The Worcester Police Department provided the crime analysis to ThisWeekinWorcester.com in response to a public records request.

The analysis includes responses to addresses of 37 Worcester Public Schools which occurred between 7 AM and 3 PM, excluding weekends and patrol-initiated activities. The Worcester Police Department selected the criteria to produce the analysis.

In November, an editorial in the Worcester Telegram and Gazette by former Worcester mayor Raymond Mariano cited an email written by Worcester Police Lt. Miguel Lopez to internal contacts within the police department. The email, provided to ThisWeekinWorcester.com, said:

“Since the start of this school year we have been asked to respond to nearly 385 incidents, (all schools). Many, but not all, of these incidents have been violent and disruptive occurrences.”

According to the Worcester Police Department, the number of incidents cited by Lt. Lopez included incidents outside of the 7 AM to 3 PM timeframe and also included responses to the Central Massachusetts Collaborative, a public school entity which Worcester Public Schools is a member.

Listed below are the number of incident responses by category to all 37 schools provided in the analysis, and the number of responses to each of the 37 schools included.
