WORCESTER – Worcester City Councilor Sarai Rivera released a statement on Wednesday, June 24, calling on the Worcester Redevelopment Authority (WRA) to remove the statue of Christopher Columbus at Union Station.
As ThisWeekInWorcester.com previously reported, Worcester Police are investigating the statue being vandalized on June 23.
Rivera called on former Rep. Vincent Pedone and the WRA Board of Directors to discuss and vote on the immediate removal of the statue.
Rivera went on to affirm her position that issues raised by Worcester’s indigenous community leaders related to celebrating Columbus Day must receive a response from the city.
