47-Year-Old Worcester Man Sentenced for Drug Distribution

WORCESTER – A judge sentenced a local man to four years in federal prison on Thursday, December 16.

U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Hillman sentenced Julio Rivera, 47, of Worcester, to five years in federal prison for after being convicted distribution and possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. A jury found Rivera guilty on September 2.

During an investigation of Melvin Burgos in October 2018, federal investigators intercepted communications between Burgos and William Torres about acquiring one kilogram of cocaine from Rivera.

On November 1, 2018, Rivera led Burgos to a storage unit. Investigators stopped both Rivera and Burgos and discovered over 900 grams of cocaine.

Both Torres and Burgos pleaded guilty. Torres received a sentence of five years in prison in February.

Burgos faces sentencing on January 5.
