SHREWSBURY – The investigation into a hit and run that led to the death of Ghufran Mutar, 20, of Shrewsbury, on Saturday night, Oct. 29, resulted in an arrest on Monday.
Westborough Police located the vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident on Monday, leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Jerry Santiago.
According to the Worcester County District Attorney’s office, a vehicle struck Mutar as she crossed Route 9 at South Street shortly after 10 PM on Saturday, while she walked home from work at a local CVS.. EMS transported her to UMass Memorial Medical Center where she later died as a result of her injuries.
The vehicle involved, a Dodge Journey, was located by Westborough Police on Monday, Oct. 31. The vehicle had visible damage to the front passenger side.
Santiago faces charges of leaving the scene of personal injury resulting in death and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
