SPRINGFIELD – A Springfield judge sentenced a local man to over six years in federal prison on a firearms charge today.
Lawrence Rutherford, 42,, of Worcester, received a sentence of 78 months in prison after pleading guilty in March 2003 to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. U.S. District Court Judge Mark G. Mastroianni delivered the sentence at the United States Courthouse in Springfield on Friday.
A search of Rutherford’s residence in June 2019 led to the discovery of two loade .22 caliber pistols and 613 rounds of ammunition, according to federal prosecutors. Rutherford has prior felony convictions punishable by over one year in prison.
Individuals with prior felony convictions punishable by over one year in prison are prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm.
