WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Department, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office and several other organizations in the area received state grants for programs supporting victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse.

The Baker-Polito administration announced on Tuesday that more than $3 million in grants has been awarded to 37 community-based organizations, police departments and state agencies as part of the Violence Against Women Act, Services Training Officers Prosecutors (VAWA STOP) Grant Program.

These grants reflect our strong commitment to ending gender-based violence and supporting the organizations that work every day to help women and girls live in safety and peace.”

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office was awarded $130,641.65. The grant will be utilized by the DA’s specialized domestic violence prosecutor and victim witness advocate team.

“Each one of these awardees has an essential role in protecting the lives and welfare of at-risk women and girls, and we are very pleased to be able to support the important work they do every day,” said Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Chair of the Governor’s Council to Address Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence.

Local nonprofit Pathways for Change, Inc. was one of 10 victim services organizations that received a grant. Pathways for Change will use a grant of $130,641.65 to help survivors of sexual violence who are deaf, hard of hearing, late deafened, or deaf and blind.
