Governor Charlie Baker’s office announced on Friday, July 24, that 11 Worcester County cities and towns have won grants from the final $6.3 million in funding through the Municipal Small Bridge Program through the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Proposals from 27 cities and towns across Massachusetts will receive funds from the last of the five-year, $50 million program.

Charlton, Southbridge and Milford won awards of $500,000 for design and construction of bridge replacement.

Grafton, Sutton, Paxton, Webster and Harvard won awards for bridge preservation projects.

Leominster won an award of $100,000 for design of a new bridge.

Gardner’s $100,000 will be for design of a new bridge culvert, which allows water flow under a bridge.

Since Baker signed the Municipal Small Bridge Program into law in August 2016, 121 projects received funding.

The small size of these projects often prevents them from being eligible for federal funding, according to Baker.
