In today’s edition – January 4, 2021 – WooTrucks opens a commercial kitchen in Boylston, there’s free COVID-19 testing this week in Worcester, Black Families Together is hosting a virtual community forum on the COVID-19 vaccine tonight, the Worcester Area Baseball Umpires Association is hosting an online clinic, and a Worcester accountant releases a business organizer for salon professionals.

 

Three Days of Free COVID-19 Testing in Worcester this Week

The UMass Memorial Health Care COVID-19 Equity Task Force and the City of Worcester are hosting free, walk-up COVID-19 testing this week. All testing is held indoors at Mercantile Center at 201 Commercial St. in downtown Worcester.

Here is the COVID-19 testing schedule:

  • Monday, Jan. 4, 11 AM to 3 PM
  • Tuesday, Jan. 5, 11 AM to 3 PM
  • Thursday, Jan. 7, 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM

 

Black Families Together is Hosting Community Forum Tonight

Black Families Together is hosting a  community information session tonight —  Monday, January 4, 2020 at 6 PM.

The event will be held virtually and will provide residents with information directly from health experts on information about health conditions and concerns specific to Worcester’s Black community.

  • Black Families Together is encouraging the following community members to attend:
  • Residents over the age of 65 
  • Healthcare workers, Police, Fire, Teachers and Childcare workers 
  • Individuals who do not have the option to work from home  
  • Anyone who takes daily medication for chronic health conditions 
  • Everyone with questions about COVID-19 or the Vaccines 

Presenters will include Worcester’s leading Black doctors and infectious disease experts: 

  • Dr. Mark Johnson, Neurological Surgery, UMass Memorial 
  • Dr. Sarah Forester, Aging and Health Disparity Researcher, UMass Medical School Dr. Rebecca Kasenge, Internal Medicine Sutton, UMass Memorial 
  • Dr. Jennifer Bradford, Family Medicine Public Health and General Preventative  Medicine UMass Memorial

Worcester Accountant ‘Tax Duchess’ Releases Organizer for Salon Professionals

A local accountant has released a business organizer for self-employed salon professionals to help them maintain business records, calculate their monthly profit and stay focused on their bottom line.

Erin Arvizu, aka Tax Duchess,  owns and manages Tax Duchess LLC, an accounting firm founded in 2019 that specializes in salon businesses. Arvizu has more than 14 years of professional experience working in a variety of accounting settings — most recently, she served as Budget Director/Assistant Treasurer for the City of Worcester, where she managed a $685M operating budget.

Arvizu released the Tax Duchess Business Organizer  — a unique, comprehensive book for hair stylists, make-up artists, estheticians and massage therapists to create a good record-keeping system.

Arvizu said, “I want my clients, and salon professionals everywhere, to have a solid understanding of their financial operation so they can achieve their business goals.” 

The 2020 edition of Tax Duchess Business Organizer is available for purchase and includes instructional videos and access to an exclusive online community for salon professionals.

 

 

WooTrucks Opens Commercial Kitchen in Boylston

WooTrucks has opened a commercial kitchen to provide space for food trucks and catering companies to operate out of. WooTrucks has moved their facility from the Canal District to Boylston and in the process has expanded its available space to nearly three times more in size.

The new facility is located at 67 Main St. in Boylston and is operated by Mark Gallant, owner of The Dogfather food truck.

 

Worcester Area Baseball Umpires Association Starts Virtual Class this Week

The Worcester Area Baseball Umpires Association will be conducting its 2021 clinic virtually.

The three-week class will be held two nights per week starting Tuesday, January 5.  The class is available for new umpires who want to be considered for high school and summer baseball assignments in 2021.

The cost for the class is:

  • $150 for Full membership (Ages 18 +)
  • $100 for Junior membership (Ages 16-17)
  • $25 for rules class and no membership (Coaches, parents, etc.)
