Police in West Boylston responded to a call about a stuck snow plow on Route 12 Wednesday afternoon and required a towing company to get it back on the road.
The 60-ton plow, manufactured by Russell in 1940, was made to clear snow from railroad lines. It was originally owned by Conrail, a large rail company created by the federal government in 1973 and broken up in 1999.
The plow left Framingham yesterday for a voyage to its new owner in Arkville, NY.
The size of the plow required it to travel in a convoy led by Massachusetts State Police. It is too large for many major highways, like the
Massachusetts `Turnpike, so the trip must follow along back roads.
At the intersection of Route 12 and Franklin St. in West Boylston, the plow bottomed out and became stuck in the road.
Route 12 was impassible for nearly 3 hours before the plow was back on the road.
