WORCESTER – A former tenant of the Lowell St. apartment building where Worcester firefighter Christopher Roy died fighting a fire on Dec. 9, 2018 is being arraigned today on arson and murder charges.

SEE DEATH CERTIFICATE BELOW: Firefighter Roy’s Death Determined Homicide

The arraignment took place at 2 PM at the Worcester County Courthouse following a press conference being held by District Attorney Joseph Early. The suspect was taken into custody on Friday morning.

The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Momoh Kamara, of West Boylston.

Superior Court Judge William Sullivan ordered that Kamara be held without bail. His case was continued to April 24.

“Today’s indictment was the result of a long and intense investigation that started immediately after Firefighter Roy’s death and is ongoing,” Early said. “This investigation is an example of tremendous cooperation and coordination by local, state and federal agencies. I want to thank everyone involved for the many painstaking hours of hard work necessary to get us to where we are today.”

As ThisWeekinWorcester.com previously reported, DA Early announced a “significant development” in the investigation in the Lowell St. fire. That development officially revealed the suspect’s name and additional charges of malicious damage to a motor vehicle and armed burglary.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined today that Firefighter Roy, 36, died of smoke inhalation and the manner of death was homicide. Roy’s death certificate is below.
