WORCESTER – A Worcester County Grand Jury indicted two men for murder in the 1993 shooting of a Fitchburg teen.
Worcester County Distrit Attorney Joe Early Jr. announced on Friday that Robert D’Lucca, 49, and Lawrence Calafell, 51, both of Gardner, were indicted on Friday, May 31. The charges are in connection with the 1993 shooting death of 15-year-old Deondray Atwood in Fitchburg.
On November 25, 1993, D’Lucca and Calafell allegedly fired into a car, parked on Daniels Street in Fitchburg with three teens inside. Atwood died from multiple gunshot wounds. The other passenger was seriously injured but survived. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.
Charges were previously filed against D’Lucca for the shooting, but is incarcerated in New York, at Sing Sing Correctional Facility, on murder charges unrelated to the case in Massachusetts. Prosecutors expect he’ll be extradited to Massachusetts for arraignment at a later date.
After being indicted on Friday, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section arrested Calafell in Fitchburg. He is scheduled to be in Worcester Superior Court on Monday for arraignment.
Both men also face charges of:
- Murder;
- Armed Assault with Intent to Murder;
- Assault with a Dangerous Weapon;
- Carrying a Firearm without a License; and
- Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card.
