City Manager Announces First Coronavirus Case in Worcester

WORCESTER – At a press conference on Saturday, City Manager Ed Augustus said that the laboratory at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health received result on the first person in Worcester that tested positive for COVID-19.

Augustus would only say that the person is under isolation and is connected to the Biogen Conference that took place in Boston.

Augustus also said that five other people from Worcester are under investigation. Another briefing will be scheduled in the coming days.

COVID-19 is the disease caused by the current strain of coronavirus that has caused schools across Worcester County to close and the World Health Organization has called a pandemic.

During the briefing it was also announced that all Worcester Public Library branches will close at 4:30 PM tomorrow until further notice.
