MA Unemployment Claims Down 80% From March 2020

Compared to the same week last year, during the week ending March 15, weekly unemployment claims are down 80% in Massachusetts.

When compared to each state in the U.S. and the District of Columbia, Massachusetts ranks 29th in reducing weekly claims according to a new analysis by Wallethub.com.

Comparing 2020 with the year before, weekly unemployment claims increased 603% over claims in in the same week in 2019. That was the 5th largest increase in the country.

Massachusetts compares to other states in the region in reducing unemployment claims from one year ago as follows:

Three states saw more unemployment claims than the same week in 2020 and finished as the three worst performing states in unemployment claim reduction: Alabama, West Virginia and Georgia.
