GRAFTON – Police responded to a report from a female at 25 East Street that an Asian man was pointing a gun at her boyfriend at around 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 5.

Officers arrived at the scene and observed the male acting strangely. Officers issued commands to the man to show his hands, but he refused and retreated to a fenced-in area out of sight of the officers.

The couple at the address told officers they found the man vandalizing a vehicle in the parking area behind the home. When confronted, the man pointed a gun and began yelling.

Officers from Shrewsbury and the Massachusetts State Police, including the MSP Air Wing, responded to assist at the scene. A Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) SWAT Unit negotiator also responded.

The man continued to emerge from the area out of sight to yell at officers. A member of the SWAT Unit eventually subdued the man when he emerged.

No injuries were reported. The man was taken to UMass Memorial Hospital for mental health evaluation.

According to the Grafton Police Department, the name of the man is being withheld pending positive identification.
