The personal-finance and data experts at WalletHub released their report on 2023’s Best States to Raise a Family, ranking Massachusetts #1 overall.
To determine the best states in which to put down family roots, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 51 key indicators of family-friendliness. The data set ranges from the median annual family income to housing affordability to the unemployment rate.
Three other New England states also ranked in the Top 10, including Vermont (#5), New Hampshire (#6) and Connecticut (#10). Rhode Island ranked #11 and Maine is #16.
Raising a Family in Massachusetts (1=Best; 25=Avg.):
- 30th – % of Families with Young Children
- 3rd – Infant-Mortality Rate
- 14th – Median Annual Family Income (Adjusted for Cost of Living)
- 19th – Violent Crimes per Capita
- 10th – % of Families in Poverty
- 21st – Unemployment Rate
- 11th – Separation & Divorce Rate
- 2nd – Percentage of Residents Aged 12+ Who Are Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19
