WORCESTER – The Massachusetts Port Authority [Massport] announced on Monday, October 4, that work to rehabilitate and add safety enhancements to the northern end of Taxiway B at Worcester Regional Airport will be completed this fall.

Taxiway B, the longest at the Airport, enables aircraft to travel to destinations at the facility on the ground. Crews will repave a 1,250 foot long section to improve the surface condition and drainage, add an energy efficient LED edge lighting system and guidance signage, and apply redesigned edges to meet current Federal Aviation Administration [FAA] standards, among other upgrades.

The cost of the project is $2.1 million. Massport said a majority of the funding comes from an FAA grant.

Massport does not expect to be affected by the project. It expects the project completed in early November.

JetBlue adds a second nonstop flight to New York’s JFK International Airport (JFK) and resumes flights to Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on October 21.
