WORCESTER – A Worcester Public Schools employee — a North High School cafeteria worker —  is among five people who were tested for the coronavirus, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation in the city.

Sources tell ThisWeekinWorcester.com that the cafeteria worker and the cafeteria worker’s two children — both students at Chandler Magnet elementary school in Worcester — were tested for coronavirus this week.

It is unknown at this time if the cafeteria worker served food while school was in session this week.

At a press conference on Saturday, City Manager Ed Augustus said the City had received results of a person testing positive for coronavirus [COVID-19] in Worcester.  Augustus would only say that the person is under isolation and is connected to the Biogen conference that took place in Boston.

The tests results of the other five people – including the cafeteria worker – are expected in the coming days.

At a prior press conference on Thursday evening, Augustus mentioned three individuals within Worcester Public Schools were under investigation for possibly being exposed to coronavirus. Each had been in contact with a known carrier of the virus. The potential exposure was discovered on Thursday. The three people mentioned by Augustus are believed to be this employee and the employee’s children.
