Polar Park Introduces Autonomous Retail Experience

WORCESTER – The Worcester Red Sox announced on Friday, December 10, that the WooSox Market™ at Polar Park becomes the first autonomous retail experience in baseball starting on Saturday.

Fans attending Polar Park can now shop for their favorite ballpark snacks and memorabilia and pay without any scanning, waiting in line, or stopping to checkout. Shoppers add payment information to the Standard AI Checkout app prior to arrival at the park, then enter the store, grab the items they want, and tap their phone to walk out — and receive an accurate receipt in minutes.

Standard AI, a San Francisco based company with offices in New York, Tokyo and Milan, developed the technology enabling the autonomous retail experience. The technology uses a series of overhead cameras and computer vision, an AI technology that derives data from images and video, to provide the experience.

The Worcester Red Sox say that Standard AI developed the technology with privacy in mind and does not use facial recognition.

Polar Park hosts the Inaugural WooSox Winter Wonderland, Saturday, December 11, at 11 AM. Scheduled to appear at the family friendly event are former Red Sox players Lenny Dinardo and Sam Horn, Mascots Smiley Ball and Woofster the WonderDog, along with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus. The event is free.
