WORCESTER – Major construction projects across Worcester were suspended indefinitely on Friday.
Earlier this week, City Manager Ed Augustus announced that private construction in Worcester would end based on the latest guidance put out by Governor Charlie Baker’s office.
The highest profile construction project in the city, Polar Park, continued until today.
While making the announcement, Augustus said it was unclear how long work on the project will be suspended or the impact it would have on the project being completed for the start of the 2021 season, next April.
On Friday, Augustus announced that city sponsored construction will also be suspended, effective immediately. He said work crews would have a couple days to secure work sites.
Two notable city-sponsored projects effected are construction of the new South High School and the renovations of the Pearl-Elm Municipal Garage.
The new South High School is scheduled to be open for the start of the 2021 academic year next September.
The Pearl-Elm Garage renovation is scheduled for completion this summer.
