UFCW Workers to Join Nurses Picket on Saturday

WORCESTER – The United Food and Commercial Workers [UFCW] local 1445 will join St. Vincent Hospital nurses from the Massachusetts Nursing Association [MNA] in picketing on Saturday, March 13.

The union contract between St. Vincent Hospital and UFCW Local 1445 expired on February 28.

UFCW Local 1445 represents 600 Hospital workers in diverse departments with a variety of job titles including patient care assistants, critical care technicians, clerks, clinical support, housekeeping, radiology assistants, pulmonary technicians and others.

According to the union, patient-to-staff ratios increased for its members at St. Vincent Hospital by 50% over the last 15 years.

UFCW Local 1445 members will picket with nurses outside St. Vincent Hospital from 7 AM to 9:30 AM and from 2 PM to 5 PM.

Nurses from the MNA began their strike on Monday, March 8. It is maintaining a presence daily from 6 AM to midnight, daily. According to St. Vincent Hospital, 150 MNA nurses crossed the picket line to work this week.
