WORCESTER – The songwriting competition series Songland premiered Tuesday night on NBC and Worcester’s own Sam James was front and center.

Songland features songwriters pitching their original songs to superstar recording artists and a panel of chart-topping music producers in hopes of creating megahits for the recording artists.

James performed his original song “Shinedown” in front of four Songland singer-songwriter judges: John Legend, Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean and Shane McAnally.
