WORCESTER – A winter storm that began Tuesday morning dropped snow across the region throughout the day, leaving widely different totals across the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a report from the Worcester Regional Airport just after 2 PM measured 4.6 inches of snow. In Shrewsbury, a measurement near the intersection of Boylston, Main, and Grafton Streets around 1:30 reported 3.8 inches. Another location in Shrewsbury, near Lake Street and Rt. 9, found 5.6 inches. In Westborough, near where North St. passes under the Mass Pike, 5.9 inches were reported just before 1 PM.
To the west of Worcester, Charlton reported 8.2 inches while Dudley reported 9.3 inches, both around noon.
Residents in Northern Connecticut and Rhode Island did not fare as well. In Rhode Island, Harrisville reported 9 inches and Foster reported 10,3 inches, both between 1:30 PM and 2 PM. In Connecticut, reporting between noon and 2 PM, Pomfret measured 11.5 inches. Ashford with 12 inches, and Tolland with 12.5 inches. A measurement in West Hartford shortly after 11 AM reported 15.2 inches.
The east and north of Massachusetts appear to have escaped much accumulation. Multiple reports in Lexington measure one inch or less. which extends all the way up to Methuen, which reported under an inch just after 1:30 PM. In southeastern Massachusetts Rockland reported 1.8 inches just before 3 PM while 2.5 inches were reported in Middleborough. On Cape Cod, totals range from two inches in Sandwich, to 5..8 inches in Barnstable, both reporting between noon and 1 PM.
