WORCESTER – The cost of City of Worcester trash bags increased on Sunday, January 1.

Large trash bags, sold in packs of five with a 30 pound weight limit, increase to $8.75 from the previous price of $7.50. Small trash bags, sold in packs of ten with a 15 pound weight limit, increase to $10 from the previous price of $7.50.

The cost of each bag increases by 25 cents. The City projects the price increases will generate additional revenue of $1.03 million during fiscal year 2023.

The increase is part of Worcester’s Clean City Plan proposed by City Manager Ed Augustus in May. The plan called for increased staff at the Department of Public Works and Parks, in part to assign personnel dedicated to litter and debris removal.
