WORCESTER – The Worcester Department of Public Works and Parks holds a community input meeting on the process to apply for permits for sp[ecial events using parks and public facilities in the city.

Worcester City Council took up the issue in its March 21 meeting. Jennifer Gaskin, president and founder of the Worcester Carribean Carnival Assosciation, offered comments during that meeting about the application process to hold the annual Worcester Carribean Carnival.

City Council forwarded the issue to the City Manager.

This Week in Worcester contacted Gaskin the morning ahead of the meeting, which she plans to attend, She said:

“I have made it repeatedly clear to the city administration where there are issues in the process. Especially where departments are using their perceived power to employ discriminatory practices. It is disappointing that we keep having the same conversations over and over without the city acknowledging the core of the issue. It’s frustrating and seems like a waste of everyone’s time.”

The meeting takes place on the first floor of the main branch of the Worcester Public Library, at 3 Salem Sq., from 6 PM to 7:30 PM on Wednesday, Nov. 15. The meeting is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
