WORCESTER – The City of Worcester’s Department of Public Works spent just shy of $4 million in snow removal efforts this season thanks to a light winter.

According to the City of Worcester, the DPW has spent around $3.75 million of the alloted $6 million snow removal budget — leaving in excess of roughly $2.25 million in funds.

About 35 inches of snow fell in Worcester from November to February. The seasonal average of snowfall in Worcester is nearly 60 inches.

The City hasn’t decided how it will spend the excess funds. An announcement on spring street sweeping and leaf pick-up is also forthcoming, according to the City.
