WORCESTER – Worcester Public Schools has announced early release on Thursday, Sept. 7, and Friday, Sept. 8, due to expected weather. All games are cancelled today, Wednesday, Sept. 6, and Thursday, Sept. 7.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory across areas of Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, including in Worceter. That advisory went into effect today and is currently set to expire on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 8 PM.
NWS predicts heat index values could reach up to 98 degrees during that time. The heat index, combined with high humidity, presents a risk of heat related illness. Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
