WORCESTER – The City of Worcester will open three drop-off sites and allow yard waste to be disposed beginning Saturday, May 9.
The City had previously said the sites would remain closed until Governor Charlie Baker lifted the statewide emergency order. However, on Monday night, the City announced the sites would open for yard waste only.
The Bulk Waste Drop-off Program will remain closed.
The City says precautionary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of employees and residents. For example, you must be wearing a mask if you leave your vehicle. And employees aren’t to have any contact with residents.
The City will re-open drop-off sites at Millbury Street, Clark Street and Chandler Street. Beginning this weekend, the sites will open on Saturdays from 9 AM to 5 PM and Wednesday from 8:30 AM to 3 PM.
The Millbury St. site is also open on Sundays from 9 AM to 5 PM.
City Councilor At-Large Kate Toomey had filed an agenda item for Tuesday night’s City Council meeting requesting the City consider re-opening just the Millbury St. drop-off center with appropriate safety measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City’s announcement ultimately resolves that order and instead opens all three sites.
Yard Waste Drop-Off Sites re-open this Sat 5/09 for yard waste only. The Bulk Waste Drop-off Program not opening at this time. Precautionary measures are being taking to ensure the safety of both employees & residents: https://t.co/xwwETeeSa3 pic.twitter.com/Z5kvQ3ZLMm
