SOUTHBRIDGE – Police in Southbridge dispatched to a home on Chestnut St. on Saturday, November 7, just before midnight, in response to a report of a homeowner who witnessed an attempted break-in.

According to the homeowner, he was watching television when he heard several trash cans fall over. He then heard banging on the windows and siding at the rear of his home. The suspect fled and jumped over a fence after the homeowner located him.

While officers began searching the area, another reported to the victim’s home to investigate.

While interviewing the victim, officers noticed a window leading to a porch pushed in. There was also a large amount of blood at the scene.

While one officer was interviewing the victim, officers located Gene Allende, 24, of Southbridge, inside a vehicle he had broken into to attempt to hide from officers.

When Allende was placed in a police cruiser, he began to strike his head on the cage area of the cruiser and sustained a minor laceration to his head.

After arresting and transporting Allende for booking, police received a report from a second resident on Chestnut St. reporting a recent break-in attempt.

At the second resident’s home, officer located a rear screened-in porch that had been opened. They also found a bloody handprint on the handle.

Based on the blood at the scene, officers determined that the suspect had entered the porch and attempted to open a window to the main residence.

Allende faces charges of:

  • Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony (2 counts)
  • Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle in the Nighttime with Intent to Commit a Felony
  • Defacement/Damage of Property (2 counts)
