Creative Hub Secures Funding for Art Space at Former Boy & Girls Club

The Creative Hub Worcester will rehabilitate a currently vacant, historic building into a new community hub at the former Boys & Girls Club location at 2 Ionic Ave.

UMass Memorial Health Care is providing a seven-year, $500,000 investment loan to Creative Hub Worcester to fund the project.

The community hub will have a multi use arts center serving at-risk youth and local working artists from the Main South area.

On the first floor, there will be event space available for rent to generate income to support programming, maker space and studios. There will be classes, art exhibitions and after-school programs.

On Monday, August 31, at 9:30 AM  an announcement and preview of the space will be presented at 2 Ionic Ave.

 

Startup Worcester Announces 2020-21 Cohort

The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, WorcLab, and the Venture Forum have announced winners of Startup Worcester memberships.

Each company selected receives year-long memberships to the Worcester Regional Chamber, WorcLab – an incubator space for entrepreneurs and innovators, and the Venture Forum – a not-for-profit community for entrepreneurs at any stage. The packages is valued at $3,500.

This year’s winners are:

  • Admet – 3D printing nozzles that add metal printing capability to
  • household 3D printers
  • Doughboyz – Pancake Delivery Service
  • handi co. – Professional handyman, carpentry, and painting services
  • Integrated Vision – Manufacturer of apparatus to help mobility,
  • vision, and hearing-impaired people connect and live independently
  • Multiscale Systems, Inc. – Design and manufacture advanced materials that are lighter, stronger, and better than conventional counterparts
  • Pineapple Girl Productions – A freelance collective talent pool for multimedia marketing
  • TechnoFrame – An open 3D printable metric aluminum extrusion construction system for prototyping machinery, robotics, and static structures.
  • World Youth Opportunity Inc. – Provider of education and training of skills for IT and entrepreneurship to empower youth

 

Weekly COVID-19 Update Shows Increase of Cases in Worcester

The City of Worcester’s weekly COVID-19 update, released on Thursday, August 27, showed an increase of cases in Worcester when compared to previous weeks.

The report said that 87 individuals from Worcester tested positive for COVID-19 in the last week. That precedes the previous two weeks which held totals of 69 and 70 respectively.

 

CVS Pharmacy to Offer Drive-By Flu Clinic for Seniors

CVS will offer flu, pneumonia and shingles immunizations at a Drive-By Flu Clinic for seniors on Saturday, September 12 at Vernon Medical Center, located at 10 Winthrop St.

Immunizations will be administered by appointment only. The deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 7.
