5 Things You Need To Know on Election Day in Worcester – Nov. 2

In today’s daily 5 Things You Need to Know feature, ThisWeekinWorcester.com explores five important items and stories that Worcester and Central Massachusetts residents should keep a close eye on.

In today’s Election Day edition – Tuesday, November 2 – find out where you need to vote today, see the candidates on your ballot, it’s not too late to drop off your mail-in ballot, where you can find election results tonight and the future of Worcester’s school committee elections.

Voting Locations in Worcester

It’s election day in Worcester! To find out your voting location see the list below. If you are unsure of your ward or precinct, head to the City of Worcester website. With your last name and date of birth you can verify your registration and locate the proper voting location.

Voting locations in all precincts are open from 7 AM to 8 PM.

The Candidates on Your Ballot

Every voter in the city will vote for Mayor, Councilor At-Large and School Committee. Voters also vote for district councilor in the district they live in.

The star (*) indicates that candidate is running for re-election. The candidates on the ballot are:

Still Have a Mail-in Ballot? You Can Drop it Off Today

If you planned on sending in a mail-in ballot, but forgot to drop it in a mailbox, don’t worry. You can still drop it off today before 8 PM.

Mail-in ballots can be dropped at ballot drop-off boxes at the following locations:

  1. City Hall — 455 Main Street — Garage entrance and on the back first floor entrance.
  2. Any voting location between 7 AM and 8 PM
  3. Drop boxes are at each of the city’s fire stations:
  • Burncoat Street, 19 Burncoat Street
  • Franklin Street, 266 Franklin Street
  • Greendale, 438 West Boylston Street
  • Grove Street,141 Grove Street
  • McKeon Road, 80 McKeon Road
  • Park Avenue, 424 Park Ave
  • South Division, 180 Southbridge Street
  • Southeast Station, 745 Grafton Street

Where Do I Get Election Results?

Polls close at 8 PM on Tuesday and election results from voting precincts  typically start coming in within an hour after the polls close. By 10 PM, voters in Worcester should have a good idea of the final results.

The results will be made official by the City of Worcester after a full count has taken place.

If you’re looking for updated results, check out the City of Worcester’s Election Results page for their live feed after 8 PM or tune into Spectrum News 1 on channels 1 and 776 for their live election results ticker as soon as polls close.

Looking Ahead to 2023 Elections for School Committee

Soon after the 2021 municipal elections in Worcester conclude, a discussion will begin on the method of electing the Worcester School Committee. In response to a lawsuit, the City agreed to reform how its School Committee is elected. The At-Large system, where all voters elect School Committee members, will be replaced by creating districts where voters will elect a member from each district to the Committee.

The City Council Standing Committee on Municipal & Legislative Operations will hold five committee meetings throughout the City to discuss three voting options for electing school committee members:
