In today’s edition – Friday, July 1 – Ziggy Bombs is rolling out a soda brand soon, the July schedule for mosquito spraying in Worcester, Holy Cross football set to return to Polar Park in October, Massachusetts launches a virtual school for adult education and the Worcester Public Library offers free design courses.

Ziggy Bombs to Release ‘Ziggy Pop’ Soon

A brand that is growing more popular by the day is expanding into the world of soft drinks.

This week, Ziggy Bombs, the now famous steak and cheese food truck in Worcester, announced they were releasing a line of sodas, “Ziggy Pop.”

Ziggy Pop will come in four flavors: Root Beer, Orange, Lemon and Lime and Cream Soda, with more flavors planned for release in the future.

Ziggy Bombs owner Mike Devish tells ThisWeekinWorcester.com he hopes to have the soda ready and out in his trucks early this month. Devish is hoping to also get Ziggy Pop in local stores.

July Mosquito Spraying in Worcester

The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) plans to spray areas of Worcester with mosquito pesticides next month on July 6, 12, 19, and 26, according to the City of Worcester.

Residents may opt out of having their property sprayed during wide area pesticide application by following instructions on the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources website.

The CMMCP’s full spraying schedule will continue to be updated here. Specific areas to be sprayed will be posted both on its website and phone system (508-
393-3055) each day after 3:30 PM.

Residents are advised to observe the following precautions if their area is being sprayed:

  • Close street-facing windows and turn off any “outside air” settings on air conditioners.
  • Keep pets inside between sunset and midnight, and do not let children play near or behind truck-mounted applicators when they are in use
  • Remain inside during the application and for 15-20 minutes afterwards
  • Wash off any vegetables from home gardens after spraying and before consuming them

Holy Cross Returns to Polar Park

Holy Cross football returns to Polar Park to host Bucknell in the second annual EBW Classic on Saturday, October 8, at 4 PM.

Tickets are now on sale for Polar Park Season ticket members, Booster Club members, and Corporate Partners. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, July 12, at 10 AM. Tickets are available here.

Mass. Launches Virtual School for Adult Education and English Language

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) today announced the launch of MassLinks, the first fully virtual educational option for Massachusetts adults statewide who are seeking their high school equivalency or English language instruction. MassLinks classes are free for all adults.

Instruction will be delivered by Mount Wachusett Community College in partnership with DESE’s Office for Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS)

Free Design Classes at the Worcester Public Library

The Worcester Public Library (WPL) has partnered with Technocopia to bring free design classes to the Main Library, at 3 Salem Street, to teach patrons how to use the software platforms Tinkercad and Inkscape.

Tinkercad allows users to build 3D designs and learn the basics of 3D modeling. Patrons can join WPL for Tinkercad: Create a 3D Object on Wednesdays, July 13, and August 10 from 6:30 PM to 8:15 PM.

Inkscape allows artists to turn images into vectors and create original graphics. Digital art created in the 2D Inkscape platform can be used on the web, in print, or to make a physical product like a sticker. Patrons can join WPL Inkscpae: Design Stickers on Wednesdays, July 27 and August 24 from 6:30 PM to 8:15 PM.

These classes are available for ages 16 and up. Basic knowledge of computers and a valid email address required for these classes.
