In today’s edition – Monday, January 31 – public participation at city meetings will be moved to Zoom in March, the WRTA is reserving one seat on each bus for the month of February in honor of Rosa Parks, there are four days of free COVID-19 testing this week at Mercantile Center, the YMCA on Main Street is hosting a vaccine clinic today and head to Wachusett Brew Yard at the Worcester Public Market to paint your own set of drinking glasses on Wednesday.

Virtual Public Participation will Move to Zoom for City Meetings

Starting on March 1, Worcester residents can attend city meetings virtually via Zoom.

The City will convert from the current WebEx platform and switch to Zoom Webinars. Links and access codes will be provided on each meeting agenda.

Two series of links and access codes will be made available for meetings taking place in the Esther Howland Chamber and the Levi Lincoln Chamber at City Hall.

WRTA Reserving Seat on All Buses for Rosa Parks in February

For the entire month of February, in celebration of Black History Month, the Worcester Regional Transit Authority is reserving a seat on every bus in honor of Rosa Parks.

Parks a civil rights activist who famously refused to move to the back of a bus in Montgomery, Ala. in 1955, igniting the Montgomery Bus boycott and ultimately leading to the November 1956 decision that bus segregation is unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Each bus will have one seat saved with the sign below honoring Parks:

Four Free COVID-19 Testing Clinics at Mercantile Center this Week

There are three free COVID-19 testing clinics at Mercantile Center in downtown Worcester this week.

Clinics are operated by UMass Memorial Health and will be held Monday to Thursday. Walk-ins are welcome.

  • Monday, Jan. 31 – 11 AM to 4 PM
  • Tuesday, Feb. 1  — 10 AM to 3 PM (vaccines available)
  • Wednesday,  Feb. 2 — 9 AM to 12 PM
  • Thursday, Feb. 3 — 10 AM to 3 PM  (vaccines available)

Vaccine Clinic Today at YMCA Central Community Branch

The YMCA Central Community Branch on Main Street in Worcester is hosting a vaccine clinic today from 11 AM to 7 PM.

No appointments are needed. Participants can receive a first dose, a second dose, or get a booster. Designated medical staff will be on site to answer any questions.

The YMCA clinic is held every Monday until further notice.

Tinker’s Cart Art Hosting Paint Night at Wachusett Brew Yard

Tinker’s Cart Art is hosting a paint night at the Wachusett Brew Yard at Worcester Public Market on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Paint your own set of glasses and choose from pint, stemless wine or stemmed wine glasses.
