High Winds, Sleet, Potential Snow on Wednesday into Thursday

WORCESTER – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a wind advisory from 4 PM on Wednesday through 2 PM on Thursday.

The advisory warns that northeast winds 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, which could negatively impact driving, especially for high profile vehicles. The NWS urges extra caution while driving during the advisory period. Residents are also advised that gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could also be blown down, which may cause power outages in some areas.

The forcast calls for rain throughout much of the afternoon on Wednesday, with rain potentially turning to sleet an d a chance of freezing rain in the evenining, with possible snow mixed in after midnight. Snow and sleet accumulation up to 1 inch is expected.

On Thursday, the NWs forecasts additional rain, snow and sleet with an accumulation up to 1 inch, continuing into Thursday night.

Temperatures throughout Wednesday and Thursday afternoon are expected in the mid to high 30s.

The advisory applies to most of western and central Massachusetts, northeastern Connecticut, and much of rhode Island including Providence and Warwick.
