State Police Arrest Man in Sturbridge with 215 Grams of Percocet

STURBRIDGE – A traffic stop for speeding in Sturbridge during the early morning hours on Monday, May 18, left a Peabody man facing a drug trafficking charge.

A trooper with the Massachusetts State Police [MSP] saw a Ford Fusion for travelling 60 MPH in a 50 MPH zone on Rt. 84. The vehicle exited Rt. 84 at exit 3 when the trooper initiated the stop.

The trooper determined during the stop that the driver, a 25-year-old man from Peabody, Chaz Butler, was driving with a suspended license.

After conversing with the driver, the Trooper initiated a search of the vehicle.

The search revealed 215 grams of what the trooper believes to be Percocet in packages of various amounts. Several packages were ready for US mail.

The officer also discovered a knife that exceeded legal size limits.

Butler faces charges of Trafficking a Class B Substance, Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon.

Butler was also cited for speeding.

Butler’s bail is $5,040. Arraignment will be in Dudley District Court.
