WORCESTER – The UMass Memorial Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit [NICU] has an annual Halloween celebration with costumes for the unit’s patients. In 2021, the celebration took on a special theme: UMass Memorial Medical Center NICU Runs on Dunkin’.

On Tuesday, October 26, tiny costumes inspired by the Dunkin’ theme include 43 patients, with some in doctor costumes, some dressed up as runners, and some as Dunkin’s signature coffee and donuts. NICU beds also got a Dunkin’ Munchkin box-inspired makeover for the day.

Staff joined in on the celebration with Dunkin’ t-shirts, while families and siblings of the NICU patients took home Halloween DIY Donut Kits, provided by Dunkin’.

The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation, which seeks to provide the simple joys of childhood to kids battling hunger or illness, recently provided a 100,000 grant to UMass Memorial Medical Center through funds raised as part of Dunkin’s Iced Coffee Day celebration this summer.

The Foundation also introduced UMass Memorial Medical Center’s full-time, in-residence service dog, Valentina, in February as part of the Foundation’s Dogs for Joy program.
