WORCESTER – Worcester Public Schools are cancelled on Tuesday, Feb. 13, due to the impending storm. Head Start and before and after-school programs are cancelled. The Durkin Administration building will all be closed.
4 to 8 Inches Predicted
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning covering south central and eastern Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut, and northern Rhode Island. The warning spans from 1 AM on Tuesday through 1 AM on Wednesday.
The NWS predicts snow accumulation of 4 inches to 8 inches. Heavy snow is expected with winds up to 35 miles per hour.
NWS also warns that travel conditions will quickly become difficult on Tuesday morning, with rapidly deteriorating conditions after 7 AM. Those who must travel should expect low visibility and snow covered roads, with snowfall potentially reaching up to 2 inches per hour before beginning to taper off and ending between 5 PM and 7 PM
The area covered by the winter storm warning includes the cities of Worcester, Framingham, Lowell, Lawrence, Gloucester, Milford, Foxborough, Norwood, Cambridge, Boston, and Quincy in Massachusetts; Hartford, Windsor Locks, Union, Vernon, Putnam, and Willimantic in Connecticut; and Foster, Smithfield, Providence, Coventry, and West Greenwich in Rhode Island.
Parking Ban at Midnight, Trash Pickup Delayed
Worcester City Hall and all other municipal buildings will be closed on Tuesday. Trash pickup and recycling collection will be delayed by one day.
The City of Worcester also announced a declared winter parking ban beginning at midnight on Monday night/ Tuesday morning. The following municipal garages are available at no charge starting at 7 PM:
- Federal Plaza Garage – 570 Main St.
- Pearl & Elm Garage – 20 Pearl St.
- Worcester Common Garage – 3 Eaton Place
- Union Station Garage – 225 Franklin St.
- Major Taylor Blvd Garage – 30 Major Taylor Blvd.
