Worcester County Now Has Over 200 COVID-19 Related Deaths

Worcester County experienced the highest single day of COVID-19 related deaths reported on Sunday, April 26.

In its April 26 report, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health [DPH] reported 23 new COVID-19 related deaths in Worcester County. The previous single day high was 17, set on both April 25 and April 15.

With the report on Sunday, COVID-19 related deaths in Worcester County now exceed 200. A total of 206 people have reported died from conditions related to the diseases cause by the 2019 novel coronavirus.

Middlesex County has suffered the highest number of deaths of any county in Massachusetts. A total of 670 people from that county had died due to COVID-19 related illness since the start of the pandemic.

Of the 14 counties in Massachusetts, six have more deaths related to the pandemic than Massachusetts.

Worcester County has the second highest population of all counties in the state, behind only Middlesex County.

The highest number of deaths reported on a single day in Middlesex County is 66, reported on April 22.

Governor Charlie Baker and others have stated that data from any single day is difficult to extrapolate anything of significance.

The average number of deaths in Worcester County for the previous ten days on April 15 was 4.

The average number of deaths for the previous ten days on April 26 is 11.
