WORCESTER – A 28-year-old Worcester man was arrested on Sunday night for assault with a hatchet.
Edwin Reyes of Cutler St. was placed under arrest when officers found him hiding in a driveway near the intersection of Pleasant and Fruit streets.
Officers were dispatched the area of 1 Irving St. on Sunday, December 20 around 8:05 PM for a report of an assault with a knife.
A stranger — later identified as Reyes — had forced a man into the entryway of a building, threatened him and pointed a knife at him. Reyes attempted to take the victim’s cell phone, but the victim managed to get away and Reyes fled.
When officers found Reyes hiding, he didn’t comply right away to show his hands. They found a hatchet in his possession.
Reyes was arrested on charges of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (hatchet), Kidnapping, Intimidation of a Witness, Assault to Rob, and Trespassing. He will be arraigned in court.
