BOSTON – Governor Healey’s office announced on Friday the distribution of $100 million to Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns for local infrastructure through revenue generated by the Fair Share Amendment.
Funding is allocated through two distinct formulas. The first half of the funds, amounting to $50 million, is distributed using the Chapter 90 formula, which considers local road mileage (58.33%), population (20.83%), and employment (20.83%). The remaining $50 million is allocated based on each community’s share of road mileage. The formula allocates over $1.7 million to the City of Worcester.
Municipalities can utilize this revenue for various projects related to construction, preservation, and improvement of capital facilities. This includes highways, pedestrian pathways, and bicycle facilities. Eligible projects cover a wide range of infrastructure improvements such as new pavement, sidewalks, retaining walls, crossing signals, bicycle lanes, and other related transportation infrastructure enhancements. This investment is a significant step in supporting local infrastructure needs across the Commonwealth.
Below are the total allocations to municipalities in Worcester County.
