In today’s edition – Tuesday, May 25  – Worcester County Sheriff’s Department takes part in placing 5,000 flags at St. John’s Cemetery on Wednesday, a public meeting will be held on Wednesday regarding the use of jet skis on Indian Lake, Hanover Theatre training program names its first class, train services to Hyannis makes changes and gas prices stay flat since last week.

 

5,000 Flags to be Placed at St. John’s Cemetery on Wednesday

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Department will take part in placing 5,000 U.S. flags at St. John’s Cemetery in Honor of Veterans on Wednesday, May 26, starting at 9 AM.

One hundred fifty Reserve Deputies from Worcester County Reserve Deputies Sheriff’s Association, WCSO Academy Recruits, local volunteers and retired military, members of East Side American Legion Post 201 and Main South Post will be part of the event Observance of Memorial Day.

The WCSO Honor Guard presents Colors with the National Anthem sung by American Idol’s Chloe Belsito.

 

Public Meeting on Wednesday will Address Jet Skis on Indian Lake

A public meeting will be held Wednesday, May 26 to address eliminating or decreasing the use of jet skis on Indian Lake.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the Levi Lincoln Chamber at City Hall. It’s being hosted by the City Council’s committee on Veterans’ memorials, parks and recreation. (The meeting was originally scheduled for May 6, but was postponed.)

Hanover Theatre Program For Local Talent Names First Class of Trainees

Worcester at Play and The Hanover Theatre Repertory have partnered for a new initiative dedicated to cultivating local acting talent. The program provides no-cost actor training and performance opportunities to greater Worcester-area residents ages 18 and older.

The program announced its first class of actor trainees:

  • Lyndsey Hawkes
  • Yahya Jingo
  • Ellen Lokos
  • Cristiano Lourenço, Jr.
  • Gideon Malugge
  • Michael Skrzek

This first class of trainees was selected from nearly 30 applicants. The trainees meet each week for a three-hour class with Hanover Theatre’s artistic director, Livy Scanlon, and will play ensemble roles in its upcoming production of Julius Caesar.

Julius Caesar will be performed this upcoming August, and all performances will be made available free and open to the public.

 

Changes to Boston to Hyannis Train Service

The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority [CCRTA] announced two changes to CapeFLYER.

CapeFLYER is a summer weekend passenger train that runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day from South Station to Hyannis. CapeFLYER makes stops in Braintree,  Brockton, Middleborough/Lakeville, Wareham Village, Buzzards Bay and Bourne.

The first change is earlier Friday arrivals. Departure from South Station will now be at 3:55 PM each Friday with arrival in Hyannis scheduled for 6:25 PM. In previous years, passengers arrived in Hyannis after 8 PM.

CapeFLYER also added a First Class Club Car to the train. It includes larger leather reclining seats with footrests and seat side food and beverage service with an upscale menu.

The cafe car and the bicycle car, with racks for 50 bicycles, also return this season.

 

Gas Prices Stay the Same This Week in MA

AAA Northeast reports changes in gas prices across the region on a weekly basis.

Massachusetts’s average gas price is the same as last week, averaging $2.91 per gallon. That price is the 15 cents higher than a month ago ($2.76), and 93 cents higher than May 24, 2020 ($2.05).

Massachusetts’s average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.

AAA Northeast’s May 24 survey of fuel prices found the current national average to be one cents lower than last week, averaging $3.03 a gallon. Today’s national average price is 15 cents higher than a month ago ($2.8), and $1.08 cents cheaper than this day last year ($1.95).
