In today’s edition – Monday, July 5 – Fairway Beef Co. closed over the weekend, Crompton Park pool is closed until Wednesday due to vandalism, All Systems Go is hosting a Duos Apex Legend tournament, the Hanover Theatre’s Jazz at Sunset will return in August and the community fridge on Main Street gets a makeover from a youth artist.
Fairway Beef Co. Closed for Good on Saturday
Fairway Beef Co. — “Worcester’s #1 meat market” — closed its doors after more than 75 years in business this weekend, according to a report from Spectrum News 1.
Spectrum News 1’s report says the butcher shop and retail store closed at 3 p.m. on Saturday and employees say they found out on Saturday. According to SN1, employees say the owners sold the building.
Fairway Beef opened in 1946.
Crompton Park Pool Closed Until Wednesday
Due to an increase of vandalism in and around Crompton Park Pool, the City of Worcester’s Department of Public Works and Parks closed the pool on Friday through Tuesday, July 6.
The pool will reopen on Wednesday, July 7.
The pool was drained and cleaned and will be refilled and the water will be balanced.
City residents are reminded that the pool is open from Noon to 7 p.m. daily and that there is absolutely no admittance outside of normal operating hours.
All Systems Go Hosting a Duos Apex Legends Tournament on Sunday
All Systems Go — Worcester’s only esports bar — is hosting a Duo Apex Legends Tournament next Sunday with $2,500 on the line.
Duo Apex Legends is a battle royale game which allows team gameplay.
The tournament starts at 3 PM on July 11 and will accept up to 80 teams. The first place prize pays $1,200, and second place $600, with smaller cash prizes for third to tenth places.
Each team must pay a $20 registration fee.
Hanover Theatre’s Jazz at Sunset Returns August 27
The Hanover Theatre, Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District and WICN 90.5 FM are bringing back Jazz at Sunset this summer in the lot behind The Hanover Theatre.
The first Jazz at Sunset of the summer will feature D. A. Foster and The Shaboo All-Stars on Aug. 27 at 6:30 PM.
