83-year-old Man Dies in Car Crash on I-290 in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY – An 83-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries sustained in a single-car crash early Tuesday morning on I-290 West in Shrewsbury.

According to the Massachusetts State Police [MSP], Gary Pike, of Billerica, was pronounced deceased today at UMass Medical Center.

The initial investigation shows that around 2:30 AM, Pike was traveling I-290 westbound when he lost control of the 2002 Ford Focus he was operating and struck a guardrail near mile marker 12.6 in Shrewsbury. 

 State troopers responded to the scene along with Shrewsbury EMS. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Pike was the sole occupant of the Focus.

The crash is under investigation by Troop C of the Massachusetts State Police along with the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.
