Worcester Airport to Upgrade Snow Removal Equipment

Massport is preparing for the upcoming winter and making upgrades at the state’s airports. 

This season, there will be 24 pieces of snow removal equipment at the Worcester Regional Airport — up from 22 last year. The airport will be adding a utility vehicle to clear the sidewalks and areas around the jet bridges and an industrial snowblower for snow removal around airfield signage. 

The airport already carries the following equipment: loaders, multi-tasking snow vehicles, snowblowers, front-mounted runway brooms, pickup trucks with plows, Oshkosh plow trucks, de-icer trucks, and a dump truck.

On average, the Worcester airport receives 64 inches of snow per season. 

 

Trash and Recycling Pushed Back One Day

Trash and Recycling in Worcester is pushed back one day this week due to the Veterans Day holiday. 

Today’s collection will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 12 and each day following will be one day later than usual. 

Pro tip: If your trash is usually picked up on a Thursday, put your trash out on Thursday night/Friday morning this week. 

Fall Leaf Pick Up Continues this Week on Tuesday

Not only the trash and recycling, but fall leaf pick-up will be skipped on Monday as well. It will resume on Tuesday.

Leaf collection will begin in Routes 3, 4, 5, 35 and 36 shown in the green shaded areas on the map below. The upcoming leaf collection area is bounded by Pleasant St., Olean St., Mower St., Dawson Rd., Whisper Dr., Moreland St., the Paxton town line, and also in areas bounded by Burncoat St., Assumption Ave., West Boylston St., Barber Ave., Randolph Rd., Mountain St. East, Northeast Cutoff, Tacoma St., St. Nicholas Ave., Quinapoxet Ln., Acushnet Ave., Beverly Rd., North Pkwy., and Clark St.

Pirates Hire Patrick Pass as New Head Coach

The Massachusetts Pirates are bringing in a familiar name to take the helm of the indoor football team.

Former New England Patriots player and three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Pass will take over as the head coach this season.

 

 

Veterans, Inc. Honored with Dept. of Labor Employer Award

Veterans, Inc., located in Worcester, was one of 11 job creators from Massachusetts awarded The HIRE Vets Medallion  from the U.S. Department of Labor for recruiting, employing and retaining America’s veterans. 

The awards were presented last week at  ceremony hosted by Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia at the Department’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.

“The recipients of the 2019 HIRE Vets Medallion Awards demonstrated a commitment to hiring veterans and helping them to develop meaningful, long-term careers,” said U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia. “From small-town businesses to Fortune 500 companies, these employers understand that veterans are uniquely qualified and dedicated employees who make significant contributions in the workplace.”

Of the 11, Veterans, Inc. was one of three to be honored with the prestigious Platinum Level Award for meeting veteran hiring and retention criteria and provide leadership programming for veterans.
