AUBURN – Police arrested a Florida man inside an unoccupied commercial building on firearm and other charges.

An alarm call brought police to the building at around 6:20 PM on Monday, April 8. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unlocked door and searched the building. Inside, they found what they believe appeared to be the belongings of a homeless person, but did not located a person.

According to the Auburn Police Department, officers secured the door after consultation with property management.

Around an hour later, police received notification of a similar alarm at the same building. Upon arrival, while looking through a window, officers saw a man smoking a cigarette inside the building.

Officers contacted the man, Christopher Floyd, of Coral Springs, Florida. They also discovered the door they had secured was forced open and damaged.

The department says Floyd admitted to breaking into the building. Police arrested and transported him to the Auburn Police Department.

During an inventory of Floyd’s property during the booking process, officers allegedly discovered a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun with a defaced serial number and two loaded magazines. Bail was set at $20,040.

Auburn Police officers transported Floyd to Worcester District Court on Tuesday morning, where he was arraigned on the following charges:

  • Carrying a Firearm without a License;
  • Defacing a Firearm Serial Number;
  • Possession of Ammunition without an FID/LTC;
  • Breaking and Entering;
  • Trespass and Destruction of Property.
