Massachusetts residents with certain Hyundai and Kia models are among over 500,000 owners who will receive recall notices in November for a problem that could lead to turn signals blinking on the wrong side of the vehicle.

A National Highway Traffic Safety Agency [NHTSA] campaign announced that Hyundai and Kia have issued a notice of recall for over 500,000 vehicles for a software problem that could cause the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended, leading to a higher risk of crash.

The potential number of affected vehicles reported is 466,109 Hyundai and 88,576 Kia. The models affected are:

  • 2015 – 2017 Hyundai Sonata
  • 2016 – 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
  • 2016 – 2017 Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid
  • 2015 – 2017 Kia Sedona

For more information on this recall, see the NHTSA recall information for the Hyundai or Kia Sedona.

According to the NHTSA, Kia expects to mail notices to owners on November 12. Hyundai expects to mail notices to customers on November 19.
