WORCESTER  – A local man received a sentence in federal court in Worcester on Wednesday of nearly 11 years in prison for drug and fraud charges.

Augustus “Bobo” Kormah, 33, of Worcester,  received a sentence of 131 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his involvement in cocaine distribution and committing wire fraud related to COVID-19 relief programs. Kormah is also required to pay restitution and forfeiture totaling $258,705.  He pleaded guilty in June 2023 to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and two counts of wire fraud.

U.S. Senior District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman sentenced Kormah to 131 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, Kormah is required to pay restitution and forfeiture totaling $258,705. He had previously pleaded guilty in June 2023 to one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and two counts of wire fraud.

Kormah’s arrest on Sept. 11, 2020, came after a suspected drug transaction. A search of his apartment led to the discovery of approximately 26 grams of cocaine, an un-serialized Polymer 80 9mm firearm, and a magazine loaded with 30 9mm cartridges.

The investigation also revealed that Kormah used the personal information of around 50 indiviiduals to file  around 125 fraudulent claims for COVID-19 unemployment benefits and 15 fraudulent claims for small business loans. Through this scheme, Kormah illegally obtained roughly $100,000 in unemployment benefits and about $170,000 in small business loans.
