A new study released this week shows Massachusetts is the most vaccinated state in the nation.
The World Health Organization [WHO] estimates that vaccines prevented at least 10 million deaths worldwide just between the years of 2010 and 2015. A similar study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] found vaccines prevented 732,000 deaths in the U.S. between 1994 and 2013, as well as eliminated $1.38 trillion in total societal costs that those diseases would have caused.
The study evaluated all 50 states and Washington D.C. across 17 metrics that include share of vaccinated children to share of people without health insurance to flu vaccination rate among adults.
Massachusetts ranked as follows compared to other states (1 = Best)
- 1st – Share of Civilian Noninstitutionalized Population without Health Insurance Coverage
- 1st – Flu Vaccination Coverage Rate Among Adults
- 2nd – Share of Teenagers Aged 13-17 with MenACWY Vaccination
- 3rd – Influenza Vaccination Rate in Children Aged 6 Months to 17 Years Old
- 4th – Share of Teenagers Aged 13-17 with Up-To-Date HPV Vaccination
- 4th – Share of Children 19-35 Months old Living in Poverty with Combined 7-Vaccine Series
- 11th – Share of Adults with Tetanus Vaccination
- 13th – Share of Adults Aged 60 and Older with Zoster Vaccination
