TEMPLETON – A Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Trooper and K9 Zigo, recent graduates from the unit’s patrol school, tracked down a suspect who fled from a vehicles top in Templeton.

On Tuesday, February 22, a Trooper conducted a traffic stop of a 2018 Toyota RAV4 Route 101 north. A passenger in the vehicle, Shane Hickey, 33, of Gardner, was known to the Trooper as the subject of outstanding warrants.

Hickey fled from the vehicle toward Gardner. Troopers set up a perimeter with assistance from Templeton and Gardner Police.

The Trooper and Zigo began tracking into the woods to Sawyer Street, then toward a fresh track in the snow headed north. After coming upon a large sand pit, Zigo pushed through thick brush around the perimeter, eventually finding Hickey hiding in some leaves.

Hickey was arrested and faces charges of related to three outstanding warrants and unlawful possession of Class A and Class B narcotics.
