Ralph’s Tavern Event to Throw Monopoly Boards in Woodchipper

WORCESTER – Ralph’s Tavern, at 117 Shrewsbury Street, hosts Monopoly Demolition Day on Tuesday, November 16 from 3 PM to 6 PM. The event is in response to what Tavern owner Scot Bove says is misrepresentation by Monopoly in choosing which locations would be on the board of the Worcester themed version of the game.

The event encourages patrons to bring Monopoly memorabilia to be tossed into the Tavern’s wood chipper and features pin the tail on Mr. Monopoly and dart throwing at Monopoly pieces. The event includes live music by the Worcester band “The Bubbleheads” who will play their new single “Monopoly Sucks.”

Ralph’s Tavern held a themed event in June that accepted Monopoly money as currency to purchase some items as part of its push to be included on the board. Bove says Monopoly misrepresented how it would choose locations for the board and required payment for inclusion.

Bove also says, “We reached out to Monopoly several times and had discussions on how we can work together. We wanted to support this venture, but Monopoly did not want to work together.”

UK-based board game company Top Trumps USA Inc. produces the Worcester version of Monopoly as part of a global licensing agreement with Hasbro.

The event at Ralph’s Tavern is also a fundraiser for one of its patrons, Briana Lee Allard, currently hospitalized and in a coma after cardiac arrest.

Bove said Ralph’s Tavern will donate $25 for every Monopoly board donated to Ralph’s wood chipper and $5 will be collected for every chance to pin a tail or throw a dart at Mr. Monopoly.

All funds raised will be donated to a Go Fund Me page for Allard.
