48-Year-Old Rutland Police Detective Dies of COVID-19

Rutland Police Detective John Songy died shortly after midnight on Friday, May 29, after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19. He was 48-years-old.

Songy, a Leicester resident, was with the Rutland Police Department for the last eight years. He had previously served with the Oakham Police Department.

Songy’s wife, Joanne, also contracted the virus but has fully recovered.

The Rutland Police Department will release service information when available.
